LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
The future of your organization will be determined by its leaders.
From setting the strategy to getting the desired results, leaders
must communicate clearly, be compassionate and make wise decisions.
To create leadership excellence in your organization, you need to
address the 4 aspects of a great leader:
1. Business skills
2. People skills
3. Leadership skills
4. Self-mastery
If you have room for growth in any of these areas, you and others in
your organization might benefit from Leadership Development support.
Even the best leaders have areas they are working to improve. That’s
why they’re the best! And while they might be aware of some
competency gaps, they may not be aware of all of them. We can help.
We work with leaders in all types of organizations to gain the
skills they need to master the leadership competencies.
You are a good candidate for Leadership Development if:
•
You lead an organization of 7 to 70,000 people
•
You manage a team of leaders
•
You and your team are willing to dedicate at least 3 hours a
quarter to this endeavor
•
You are willing to take an honest look at where you succeed and
where you could improve
•
You are committed to investing in the long term development of those
who work for you
We use the Leadership Competencies Model.
We use the Leadership Competencies Model developed by my teacher,
Ginger Lapid-Bodga, and described in her book
What Type of Leader Are You? It has proven effective with
leaders from the best organizations in the world! Following is a
brief description of each competency:
DRIVE FOR RESULTS
– set overall direction and goals, create workable
plans, assign tasks, measure and reward high performance, provide
stewardship, evaluate results and implement lessons learned.
STRIVE FOR SELF-MASTERY
– demonstrate self-awareness, respond to
feedback, exhibit self-responsibility and, self-motivation, practice
self-management with emotional maturity, and maintain integrity for
life-long learning.
KNOW THE BUSINESS; THINK AND ACT STRATEGICALLY
– includes 3 main
components – the business environment, organization, and thinking
strategically. There are also many subcomponents.
BECOME AN EXCELLENT COMMUNICATOR
– create genuine relationships,
communicate clearly, listen actively, give effective feedback,
manage conflict constructively and influence others.
LEAD HIGH PERFORMING TEAMS
– demonstrate the elements of team
leadership, vision, and talent, design team architecture, processes,
and culture, while assuring quality products and services.
MAKE OPTIMAL DECISIONS
– consider culture, authority structures,
context, and the 3 centers of intelligence, then integrate them into
decision-making.
TAKE CHARGE OF CHANGE
– deal with the demand for change using
vision, planning and processes; reduce resistance and anchor the
change.
Leadership Development Format and Results
The Sessions take 3 different formats; group training, learning
communities, and coaching. All 3 formats stand alone or can be
integrated and the format times vary. Training is either all day or
half day, learning communities take 3-4 hours, and coaching lasts
1-2 hours. We’ll meet every one to three months covering one
competency per session.
The results start as soon as we begin working together and continue
long after our work has concluded. You and your leaders will have a
framework from which you can continuously develop into better and
better, self-aware leaders.
Because this program is based on your Enneagram type, the
information goes much deeper and is more relevant than simple
leadership models. The development plans are right on target and
will help you make it to the next level and beyond. You will
experience change and see it in the other leaders of your
organization. The transformation over time will be greater than you
can imagine.
Getting Started
I’ll briefly explain each of the three formats for Leadership
Development, and we can discuss which would best fit your situation.
Group Leadership Training
is for 15 or more people and includes a
number of experiential activities, covering each of the leadership
competencies. It tends to be a bit more fun than the other formats
and is a good way to bring a leadership team together. Sessions are
half or full day every 2–3 months.
Leadership Learning Communities
are for leadership teams of 5 to 15
people and last 2.5 to 4 hours every 1–3 months. We’ll cover a
different competency in each session through background reading,
interactive discussion of theory, self-assessment of skills, and a
discussion around application. These sessions involve
self-disclosure and unite the team for leadership development.
Preferably done in person, this format is also suitable over the
phone.
Leadership Coaching
is a one-on-one format, either in person or over
the phone every 1 to 3 months. We cover the same competencies with
self-assessment and an interactive dialogue of how to work with your
strengths and areas for development.
Regardless of the format, the first step in this process is for us
to help you determine your type. We can do this in a one-to-one
Enneagram Type Exploration Interview or in groups of any size.
